Honorable Barbara Jordan

Barbara Jordan was a Texas Southern University graduate who became the first Southern Black woman elected to the U.S. House. Her speech during the Nixon impeachment inquiry and her keynote at the 1976 Democratic National Convention made her one of the most respected public voices of her generation.

Delivered a nationally remembered statement during the House Judiciary Committee’s 1974 impeachment hearings.
Inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 1989.
